Carnival with the Marleys

Notting Hill Carnival reared its head once more for the last official Bank Holiday of summer, ripping through the capital with its cocktail of barbecue smoke, jerk chicken, Red Stripe cans, soca beats, balloons, opulent costumes and dancing policemen. Returning for its sixth year, we helped Red Bull Music Academy throw their signature Carnival bash under the Westway, hosting 2000 revellers for a day’s worth of music, free bar, good grub, and foot stomping.   A salute to heritage greatness came from the Marleys playing together for the first time at Notting Hill, with Damian, Julian, Stephen and his son Jo Mersa taking the stage, along with the crew from the Ghetto Youths collective. They were joined by T.Williams, fresh from his stint at the Red Bull Music Academy in New York earlier this year; RBMA graduates xxxy and Nightwave, Disclosure, with a surprise appearance from Eliza Doolittle; and MJ Cole b2b Wookie with special guest DJ EZ.
