For The Record…
Building on the anniversary celebrations of 2013 that climaxed in the live-stream record-breaking Revolutions in Sound, Red Bull Music Academy has turned its attentions to that cultural object of desire, the coffee table book. With RBMA’s reputation for doing things at 200%, this is no flimsy nod to aesthetics meant to just lie gathering dust untouched, but a compelling, in-depth, unique, beautifully crafted insight into the world of music.
Pairing up a mix of top artists and industry insiders, For The Record is a selection of 15 curated conversations on some of the most relevant and important topics in music today. Featuring iconic personalities like Nile Rodgers, Erykah Badu, DJ Harvey, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Just Blaze and more in conversation with their peers, the fifteen talks took place around the world – Amsterdam, Paris, New York, and Berlin to name a few. In addition to the conversations, the book features essays about each of the personalities included by eminent music journalists Philip Sherburne, Joe Muggs, Jeff ‘Chairman’ Mao and Sheryl Garratt, adding their own editorial flair.
Covering topics from live performance to instrumentation, conceptualism to drumming and rhythm, it’s an insightful delve into the state of the music industry today, and for a coffee table book, has a whole lot of gravitas.
