The Great Escape
Bringing its flurry of beats, beards, bands and bravado to Brighton, The Great Escape festival is a mecca for rising stars and a necessary date in all music lovers’ calendars. This year, we’ll be scurrying off for the weekend with Red Bull Music Academy as it joins forces with the festival once more for a seaside takeover of DJ sets, live music and film. Headlining the takeover, L.A-based musical polymath and 2010 RBMA grad TOKiMONSTA swaps South Cali for the South Coast, alongside Peckham golden boy Darq E. Freaker and South London troupe LV, drum&bass darling Alix Perez, Aussie three-piece Seekae (live), and a live set from Ninja Tune’s Blue Daisy, the experimental producer pipped by Mary-Anne Hobbs.
In addition to the gig offering, RBMA will be screening some of their highly acclaimed, poignant and acutely insightful musical documentaries at The Great Escape convention. In the same vein as the recently released Ralf Schmerberg feature, ‘What Difference Does It Make? A Film About Making Music’, their films tend to explore the musicians of today pushing boundaries, offering a refreshingly raw window into the minds of modern heroes.
See you down the Pier.
