RBMA Montreal 2016
The Red Bull Music Academy’s next month-long workshop and festival series has been announced to take place in Montreal, Quebec in Autumn 2016. This will be the Academy’s 18th edition and first full return to Canada since Toronto hosted it in 2007. The epicentre of Canadian artistic experimentalism for decades, Montreal has a rich history rooted in disco, jazz, folk, hip hop and techno, and is celebrated as a breeding ground for the sounds of a variety of influential artists, from Leonard Cohen to Arcade Fire.
The application phase for the 2016 Academy is also now officially open, and closes March 7, 2016. For an opportunity to be part of the Red Bull Music Academy, application forms can be downloaded from the Red Bull Music Academy website. As part of the UK application phase, and to give prospective applicants a taste of what a day at the Academy is like, there will be two UK lecture sessions: one in Newcastle, on 2nd February, and the second in Brighton, on 4th February. The Newcastle lecture will take place at the city’s namesake, The Castle, Newcastle, while the Music Room at Brighton’s famous Royal Pavilion will be the venue for the Brighton lecture.
The lectures will feature Academy alumnus and Canadian native Lunice, on hand to share stories of his time at 2010’s Academy in London, along with undisputed house legend Todd Edwards. Credited as one of the godfathers of UK garage, and a repeated Daft Punk collaborator, Edwards’ story is inextricably linked to dance music’s past two decades, making him an ideal candidate to share his experience with the next generation of aspiring musicians and producers.
