RBMA stops off in Glasgow
Following a weekend in Liverpool, Red Bull Music Academy kicked week two of the RBMA UK Tour off in Glasgow for another weekend of forward-thinking shows, lectures and workshops.
With the city being known for a stong homegrown grime scene, Thursday saw RBMA host a London x Glasgow link-up, between artists from both ends of the UK including Sir Spyro, D Double E, Jammz, Capo Lee, Jack Dat, and Astral Black’s DJ Milktray b2b Rapture 4D and Bushido.
On the same night, the Academy curated shows at two of the city’s institutions; Barrowlands and Sub Club for a double serving of Kompakt mainstay Kölsch. On Friday, Numbers hosted an evening at The Savings Bank with RBMA 2016 grad and local favourite Denis Sulta, alongside Warp’s newest signing Lorenzo Senni and Glasgow duo General Ludd. London-based club night and label Different Circles showcased with Academy alumni Mumdance who explored the full spectrum of UK hardcore and, later in the weekend, presented a modular synth masterclass.
On Saturday the Tour transformed the Glasgow laundry emporium Majestic Laundrette into a mini club hosting Jackmaster and Thowing Shade for the intimate and dreamy “Discospin”. Later that evening the Tour headed to La Cheetah to celebtrate seven years of wthe club New York’s loft-bothering party gents Mister Saturday Night for a bash across the club’s two floors, also featuring Actress, Beatrice Dillon, and Lukid.
